She began writing in the seventh grade with whimsical poems about talking animals and short stories about killer vegetables. After graduating from high school, her writing took a back seat to college, a short stint in the U.S. Army, marriage, and children.
Once revisited by the writing bug, J. Rae Moore added to her writing resume by writing several radio commercials for AAFES closed circuit radio. She then went on to write several short stories that have won numerous awards in writing contests such as The Writers’ League of Texas 2015 and 2016 Manuscript Contests, the 84th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, and The Yellow Bird Editors 2014 First Chapter Contest.
J. Rae Moore stays active in the writing community by attending conferences and workshops such as The Writers’ League of Texas Agents and Editors Conference, Rewrite – the jagged edge, and On Being a Writer. She is also a member of the local writing group Novel Ideas and a member of SCBWI. She is also a contributor to the writing blog The Missing Comma Club.
California grown and then transplanted to Texas, J. Rae Moore lives smack dab in the middle of the state. Her family consists of nine individuals comprising of a variety of genders, species, and personalities. Her hobbies include reading, fitness, and DIY projects. She’s a quintessential introvert and is often confused.
